Senior Financial Analyst

Jungle Scout is seeking a Financial Analyst to help lead the analysis driving our operational and strategic decision making. We want someone to build models and scenarios, and make recommendations to the executive and functional teams using those inputs, that will help us optimize pricing, reduce churn, assess buy vs build options, and determine the impact of all of our decisions on the company’s financials. This is a critical role for the company and will report directly to the CFO.

The successful candidate will play a leadership role in several areas. She/he will own the forecasting and budgeting process, working with our functional leads and the executive team to build our annual budget and quarterly forecast models. She/he will also own the modeling that drives our pricing decisions, making recommendations to the Jungle Scout team that we’ll then test to determine the impact on company results. Related, she/he will lead our monitoring around customer churn, making pricing and other recommendations to help us reduce unprofitable churn. The Analyst will play similar leadership roles on other key projects, leading the financial modeling necessary to help facilitate our decision making. Finally, should the Company examine acquisition opportunities, the Analyst will lead the financial modeling necessary to help decide which opportunities we should and should not pursue.

We are looking for someone with meaningful experience with financial modeling and scenario building, who can take high-level problems and can creatively and quickly build models that will help us understand our options and the impact of those options on our financials. This likely requires a significant amount of expertise when it comes to manipulating those models in Microsoft Excel. She/he must also be an excellent communicator and business partner, capable of making compelling business-driven cases and articulating them logically to the internal team to drive decisions. Finally, she/he must be flexible and adaptable, capable of getting feedback, learning from it, and adapting her/his models to reflect new information so we reach the best possible decision.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the forecasting and budgeting process, building the underlying models and then partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure the inputs in those models reflect our best assessment of reality
  • Prepare comparisons of actuals vs budget and/or forecast, so the company knows where our gaps are, and make recommendations of the best way to potentially address any issues
  • Make pricing recommendations, using models and historic data around customer elasticity to help understand the potential impact of pricing changes on overall company profitability
  • Drive the company’s efforts around monitoring churn rate, ensuring all constituents are using a common lexicon and definition, reporting is available and understood by all, and we can model and assess various options to reduce churn
  • Lead various analytical programs/projects designed to understand the potential impact of high-level strategic opportunities on the company’s financials
  • Build financial models to help us assess potential acquisition and/or other growth opportunities
  • Prepare presentations on various opportunities to company management and Board

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Expert-level understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Significant prior experience (3+ years at minimum) building financial statements / budgets and scenario models
  • Prior experience in either investment banking, strategic consulting and/or the finance department of a high-growth SaaS and/or subscription business strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA preferred but not required
  • Knowledge and demonstrated prior use of SQL preferred (if candidate does not know SQL, must be willing to learn in order to extract data from our internal databases)
  • Past experience with Tableau and/or other visualization software preferred but not required
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills
  • High energy and the ability to work hard and play well with others
